FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are my options to replace multiple missing teeth?

The All-on-4 treatment was designed as a dental implant solution for patients who are missing multiple teeth or need full-mouth restoration.  There are millions of patients around the world who have gone through this treatment.

It uses four fixed implants in the jaw to support a complete set of prosthetic teeth (either in the upper or lower jaw). In Ottawa, this procedure is growing in popularity as it provides the same experience as real teeth, is a long-term alternative to removable dentures, which can be uncomfortable or inconvenient.

How much do full arch/all-on-4 implants cost?

The cost of an All-on-4 procedure at Renew can range between $17,000 to $24,000 per arch (upper or lower set of teeth). This includes the cost of the implants, temporary prosthetics, and the final permanent teeth. We do offer flexible payment plans or financing options. Additionally, while dental insurance typically doesn’t cover the full cost, it may cover some aspects, such as extractions or initial consultations. When you come in for your consultation we can help you understand exactly what you qualify for.

Is All-on-4 treatment painful?

At Renew your All-on-4 is commonly performed under local anesthesia or IV sedation, so you won’t feel any pain during the procedure. We prioritize patient comfort by offering different levels of sedation based on individual needs. Post-surgery, mild discomfort, swelling, or bruising is common but can be managed with prescribed pain medications. Generally, any discomfort diminishes after a few days. We  provide detailed aftercare instructions, as well as follow up calls and support to ensure a quick recovery.

Am I a good candidate for All-on-4?

We typically assess candidacy for All-on-4 based on 2 main factors:

  • Bone Density: A major factor is having sufficient jawbone density to support the fixed implants. Thanks to advancements in technology, even the most complex of problems can be helped.
  • Health Conditions: Overall health is also important—conditions like uncontrolled diabetes or smoking can affect healing and implant success. Please book your free assessment to ensure you are a good fit for the procedure.

How long does the All-on-4 procedure take

The actual procedure typically takes 2-3 hours per arch. You’ll leave Renew with a set of temporary teeth fixed in place on the same day as your surgery. These temporary teeth allow you to eat and function while your jawbone heals around the implants (osseointegration). After 3-6 months of healing, you’ll return to us for the placement of your final set of permanent teeth.

How natural will the All-on-4 implants look and feel?

Functionally, All-on-4 implants feel very similar to natural teeth. Since the prosthetic teeth are fixed to the implants, they won’t slip or move like traditional dentures. Biting power is near 100% to your original teeth.  You can eat steak, corn, apples and pretty much anything you want. No fear of ever losing your denture and be able to simply smile to the fullest when taking a picture.

Are there any dietary restrictions after getting All-on-4 implants?

For the first few weeks following your surgery we recommend sticking to a soft-food diet. This includes foods like scrambled eggs, yogurt, soup, mashed potatoes, and smoothies. As your implants heal and your final set of teeth is placed, you can gradually return to a regular diet. Long-term, your All-on-4 implants will allow you to eat most foods, including tougher items like steak or apples, although it’s wise to avoid overly hard or sticky foods that could damage the prosthetic teeth or implants.

What kind of maintenance is required for All-on-4 implants?

Just like natural teeth, All-on-4 implants require regular oral hygiene. We recommend brushing twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush and using non-abrasive toothpaste. Flossing around the implants (with special floss or a water flosser) and regular cleanings at the clinic are essential to prevent plaque buildup and gum inflammation. We usually advise patients to visit every six months for professional cleanings and check-ups to ensure the implants and surrounding tissues remain healthy. With proper care, your All-on-4 implants will last a lifetime.
